NFL Fantasy TE Rankings

Welcome to the second part of a four part series that will preview fantasy rankings for the upcoming NFL season. Each part will rank the top 15 players at specific offensive positions (QB, RB, WR, and TE) needed for fantasy football.
Part Two: Tight Ends – Dallas puts the “D” in derrière (and tight ends).
The tight end position has transformed itself in the past decade to a point where tight ends may be some of the biggest offensive weapons in the league. Ten years ago tight ends focused on run blocking and pass protection. Today they are often primary receiving targets who run wild in the open field. For proof, look at the numbers: TE Rickey Dudley, who had the third highest fantasy points in 1999, would have barely cracked the top ten in 2010. Every year there seems to be a new tight end that showcases his talents, but the top spots have been filled by the Dallas Clarks and Tony Gonzalezes of the world. Will this year be more of the same, or will there be new names taking over at the top? Let’s take a look at my top fifteen tight ends heading into the 2010 season:

NFL Quarterback Fantasy Rankings
Aug 17th
Welcome to the first part of a four part series that will preview fantasy rankings for the upcoming NFL season. Each part will rank the top 15 players at specific offensive positions (QB, RB, WR, and TE) needed for fantasy football.
Part One: Quarterbacks – It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a football!
Quarterbacks may be the face of the franchise in the NFL but when it comes to fantasy football they’re usually overlooked and running backs become the “sexy position.” That being said, QBs are able to have just as much of an impact as RBs do. Last season, the top 15 QBs averaged 234 fantasy points while the top 15 RBs averaged 196 fantasy points. This just shows that picking the right QB is imperative to your fantasy team’s success. Looking forward to 2010, there are a number of elite QBs in the league ready to torture defenses while there are few more ready to try and do the same. The big question for fantasy enthusiasts this off-season has been who will be the number one fantasy QB in 2010? Could it be Drew Brees? Maybe it’s a Manning? Can Aaron Rodgers reclaim the crown, or will it be someone entirely different? Let’s take a look at my top 15 ranked QBs heading into the 2010 season:

Joseph Addai: 2010 Sleeper Pick

The Indianapolis Colts possess one of the most potent offenses in the history of the NFL, largely in part to the stellar quarterback play of Peyton Manning. There seems to be this notion that whoever lines up beside Manning is a worthy fantasy option. Whether it’s Wayne running slants, Garçon breaking tackles, Collie running through the slot, or Gonzalez showing off his great hands, the Colts have a plethora of options at the WR position. All of them have quite a bit of fantasy value and the team’s number two target, Dallas Clark, hasn’t even been mentioned.

Is There a Bad Choice: MJD vs. Ray Rice

First – Chris Johnson! Second – Adrian Peterson! Third – Ra… Maur… and then the water gets murkier. With most fantasy “experts” claiming that the first and second picks will be Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson, respectively, many fantasy owners aren’t sure what to do with that third pick. Right off the bat, they think, “How can you go wrong with either of these top players: MJD or “Little” Ray Ray?” Interestingly enough, this early in the draft, such a pick can make you or break you.
First, let’s start by looking at their head-to-head stats from the 2009 regular season:
Maurice Jones-Drew (Jacksonville Jaguars) |
Ray Rice (Baltimore Ravens) |
Carries: 312 | Carries: 254 |
Rushing Yards: 1,391 | Rushing Yards: 1,339 |
Rushing TDs: 15 | Rushing TDs: 7 |
Receptions: 53 | Receptions: 78 |
Receiving Yards: 374 | Receiving Yards: 702 |
Receiving TDs: 1 | Receiving TDs: 1 |
Fumbles: 2 (1 lost) | Fumbles: 3 (3 lost) |
