Colts Roster Moves Week 10-11
Nov 18th
1 comment
Earlier this week the Colts released wide receiver Chris Brooks from the active roster and re-signed safety Chip Vaughn. The move increases the likelihood that wide receiver Austin Collie will return for the match-up against New England Sunday afternoon. It also suggests that the Colts saw enough in Chip Vaughn during his recent stint with the team to bring him back to the active roster and take a closer look.
I was a little disappointed when I learned that the Colts released Vaughn as he was a pre-2009 NFL Draft favorite of mine. Hopefully he will stick around long enough to have a chance to learn the system and compete with Mike Newton and Aaron Francisco for a long-term spot on the roster and chance to compete the 2011 off-season. The following players have had a determination made concerning their availability in today’s matchup of the Indianapolis Colts vs. the Cincinnati Bengals.
Joseph Addai - INACTIVE: Continues to rehab from the same injury that put Devin Moore in Injured Reserve
Austin Collie – INACTIVE: While he has improved through the week, the team is not wanting to rush him with a severe concussion.
Mike Hart – INACTIVE: Still no real time-line for Hart’s return, and no changes are forthcoming today.
Brody Eldridge – ACTIVE: Eldridge will return to the field as the starting TE, and may see even more work with no available slot receivers.
Gary Brackett – INACTIVE: Brackett spent the week sitting out of practice and will not play, meaning Pat Angerer will do a position swap yet again.
Clint Session – INACTIVE: Session continues to heal after breaking his arm and dislocating his elbow in Week 8. Tyjuan Hagler is expected to start.
Blair White – INACTIVE: White injured himself during the week, and the Colts have brought up 2 WRs from the practice squad to add depth.
Jerraud Powers – ACTIVE: Powers returns to the lineup, helping to solidify the secondary just in time against a revitalized Terrell Owens.
Jacob Tamme – ACTIVE: Tamme will be active, and may end up seeing significant time in the slot with neither WRs James or Brooks looking particularly hopeful in the position in previous experiences.
Bob Sanders – INACTIVE: Sanders continues to rehab from a ruptured Bicep.
Justin Tryon – INACTIVE: Tryon is also recovering from an injury sustained in the week 8 matchup against Houston.

Bengals v. Colts, And Things of that Nature (Week 10 Game Preview)

The Battle for I-74 will take place on Sunday as the Indianapolis Colts (5-3) take on the Cincinnati Bengals (2-6). The Colts will need a win to keep pace in both the tightly packed AFC South standings and the race for the number one seed in the AFC. The team standing in the way of a Colts victory on Sunday will not be an average, ordinary football team — they have a secret. A secret identity, that is.
Not content with only being able to wear tights during the day, the Bengals set out on a mission to find a nighttime gig that afforded them the opportunity to experience their comfort and masculinity 24 hours a day. So, led by the obnoxious diva-turned-crime-fighters duo of Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson and Terrell Owens, the Bengals entered the world of superheroes. More >
Week 10 Q&A: Bengals Blogger Josh Kirkendall

Each week Coltzilla will preview the upcoming game by speaking with fellow bloggers who write about the week’s opponent. This week Coltzilla speaks with Josh Kirkendall from Cincy Jungle to get a Bengals perspective on our upcoming match-up.
CZ: Bengals fans must have been excited for Terrell Owens arrival in Cincinnati. After his great performances, Chad Ochocinco has shown some unrest on the sidelines. How do you think their relationship will affect this offense if things turn sour?
JK: Well, the Bengals are already 2-6 and out of the playoffs. So if it hasn’t affected their relationship by this point, it’s doubtful that it will. The two are often seen together on the sidelines with neither making gestures of frustration nor the obvious heated arguments we’ve seen from Chad or Owens, individually, when talking with Palmer. Most of Chad’s frustration isn’t so much that Owens is getting most of the attention – Chad understands why Owens is the team’s targeted number one receiver. Most of Chad’s frustration is, at least he claims, is that he’s always double teamed, forcing Palmer to look away from him. Chad just wants to be more involved in the game to help the team win. But sometimes he allows his emotions to get the better of himself, as we say on Monday Night Football. More >

2009 Game Recap – Week 17: Colts at Bills

To help pass time this off-season, I have reviewed the Colts regular season games from 2009. With this second look at how the team played, a few thoughts have occurred to me which were not obvious during the initial viewing, and I thought it a good opportunity to rethink some of my previously held opinions of the team I love. So, with your kind indulgence, as I view a game at a time I will be sharing my impressions.
Personal Note: This is not, and was never intended to be, an objective, unbiased review of an NFL contest. It is instead a glimpse into the emotional ride experienced by the average Colts fan at game time. My Homerism switch is engaged and turned up to eleven. With that in mind, I invite you to join me as we relive the highs and lows of the 2009 Indianapolis Colts season.
Today’s Game: Week 17: Indianapolis Colts at Buffalo Bills
Setting the Stage
- The Colts enter the final game of the regular season with a league-leading record of 14-1. Quarterback Peyton Manning is second in the league with 4,405 passing yards, and wide receiver Reggie Wayne is tied for third in the league with 1,243 yards receiving. Pierre Garçon is nursing a sore shoulder and does not play. Defensive end Dwight Freeney, kicker Adam Vinatieri, linebacker Clint Session, defensive end Robert Mathis, defensive back Jerraud Powers, and running back Chad Simpson are out with various injuries. Defensive end Ervin Baldwin, defensive tackle Eric Foster, corner back Tim Jennings, safety Aaron Francisco, and defensive end Raheem Brock get the start. Sam Giguère makes his first appearance for the Colts returning kickoffs. Several of the Colts were selected for the Pro Bowl prior to this game; among them are Reggie to his fourth, Peyton to his tenth (ties Colts great Johnny Unitas), and tight end Dallas Clark to his first. Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick leads the 5-10 Bills, who boast a defense with 26 interceptions on the year (tied for second).
- The Field: Frozen solid on a near-whiteout, wintry New York day at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, NY. Temperature is 14 degrees with northwest winds gusting to 40 mph. That is a wind chill temperature of minus one, folks. I swear I just saw a polar bear wearing a parka in the stands.
- The Crowd: Sparse and subdued. The stands are half-empty. Or is that half-full? Either way, they are wrapped head-to-toe in cold weather gear and act like they are still recovering from the holidays.

Colts Post Preseason Week 1 Roster Prediction
Aug 16th
It is way too early in the preseason to get a good gauge on where the Colts regular season roster will end up. Still, after watching much of training camp and the first pre-season game, some players stick out as leading competitions for roster spots at each position.
Using the final roster from last season as a guideline, along with the Colts history handling draft picks and summer injuries, the following roster contains 55 players. Two of the players will not count against the 53 player roster limit as they enter the season on the “reserve physically unable to perform list.” Players on this list can start practicing at the conclusion of week six games, and will need to either be activated to the roster or placed on injured reserve by week 10 of the regular season.
Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions.

Today’s Game: Week 10 – New England Patriots at Indianapolis Colts
Setting The Stage
- The Colts come into the game 8-0, one of two undefeated teams, and with a defense which leads the league in points allowed. Tom Brady and Randy Moss lead the Patriots into the game at 6-2 and lead the AFC East. Colts injuries include Bob Sanders, Tyjuan Hagler, Aaron Francisco, and Kelvin Hayden. Kyle DeVan starts his second game at right guard.
- The Field: It’s a Sunday night at Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis IN. The roof is closed.
- The Crowd: Loud early, very subdued in the second and third quarters… yeah, I can see why. The fourth is a totally different story. They’re rockin’ crazy at the end.
