After Review: Texans v. Colts

The Indianapolis Colts won convincingly against the visiting Houston Texans. The surprising part of the victory is that it was without key players like Joseph Addai, Jerraud Powers, Dallas Clark, and Austin Collie. During the course of the game, rookie tight end Brody Eldridge left the game due to injury, first-time starting running back Mike Hart hurt his ankle in the fourth quarter, and wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez took a hard hit on the sideline, which kept him from finishing the game.
The game had major contributions from players like Hart, who ran for 84 yards on 12 carries (7.0 yards per carry) and caught all three of the passes his way for an additional 19 yards. He had the best game of his career and was on pace to break the 100-yard rushing mark. Cornerback Justin Tryon got his first start with the Colts for Jerraud Powers. Pat Angerer started his first game at strong-side linebacker in place of Philip Wheeler. Jacob Tamme got his first career start for the injured Dallas Clark and managed 64 yards on 6 receptions, out of 9 targets, and his first NFL touchdown. Even rookie Jerry Hughes saw his first action, got his first NFL tackle, and a quarterback hurry. More >
Texans v. Colts, And Things of that Nature (Week 8 Preview)
Oct 31st
It is said that men are measured not in times of prosperity, but in periods of adversity. If true, the Indianapolis Colts (4-2), who have decided to go as a MASH unit for Halloween, will be measured in front of a national audience when they host the Houston Texans (4-2) on Monday Night Football.
The Colts, who often find themselves among the most injured teams in the NFL, have taken injury-depletion to a new level in 2010. Players out due to injury for Monday night’s game are: safeties Bob Sanders and Melvin Bullitt (season-ending injured reserve), wide receiver Austin Collie, defensive tackle Antonio Johnson, linebacker Kavell Conner, tight end Dallas Clark (season-ending injured reserve), running back Joseph Addai, and corner back Jacob Lacey.
The walking wounded could potentially be joined on the sidelines by running back Donald Brown and corner back Jerraud Powers. Fans interested in obtaining the autographs of Colts players may want to wear doctors or nurse costumes.
Making matters worse for the Colts is the current playoff picture. Entering Week 8 the Colts are eighth in the tight AFC standings which feature nine teams with .500 or better records. That, combined with the Colts’ two losses in conference and division, and you have what feels like a must-win game if the Colts hope to control their own fate come December. More >
Overcoming Adversity: Opportunity Knocks, Will the Colts Answer the Call?
Oct 25th
The Colts have had a rough week. In the Week 6 game against Washington, the Colts lost Joseph Addai, Pierre Garçon, and Dallas Clark. This string of injuries is reminiscent of November 2009, when within four days the team lost Tyjuan Hagler, Bob Sanders, and Marlin Jackson to season-ending injuries, and it was announced that starting cornerback Kelvin Hayden would miss a month with a knee injury. It is interesting that, in light of these similarities, there seems to be a lack of perspective this year. Over the past few days many have implied that the Colts are some sort of a lame duck.
There is no escaping that this may be the worst bye week in Colts history. But, you know what? The Colts aren’t dead yet! Other than injuries and off-field issues, things have been going well for Indianapolis. The Colts still have one of the best teams in the league and still have the best quarterback leading the way. No one will argue that the Colts are unbeatable this year, but even after everything that has happened, there are reasons to be optimistic. More >
Colts Re-Sign TE Gijon Robinson, Continue Practice Squad Shuffle
Oct 20th
No comments
In order to fill the vacant roster spot left when safety Brandon King was placed on IR yesterday, the Colts have re-signed Gijon Robinson. Robinson has spent the last two seasons as the Colts starting tight end and H-Back across from Dallas Clark but lost his job this year to rookie Brody Eldridge.
The Colts also continue to shuffle players on and off the practice squad over the bye week. The Colts waived fullback Matt Clapp.

In many respects, the game in Jacksonville was very similar to what Colts fans have come to expect in games against the Jaguars. There will be a steady dose of Maurice Jones-Drew running the football, delayed runs, draws, and quarterback options will dominate the front presented against Indy’s speedy defense. When the Colts have the ball the Jaguars defenders will play very physical, hit hard, and fight with all they have to limit a relentless Colts offense with an unlimited number of weapons and the greatest field general in the NFL.
The tempo for the game was set very early, and it was one that did not favor a Colts victory. Fans may recall the Colts facing the New York Giants at home in Week 2, and visions of safety Antoine Bethea lighting up Ahman Bradshaw on the first defensive play of the game really made a statement after an abysmal defensive performance in Houston. In this game against Jacksonville, the Colts did not come out with fire in their bellies, the defenders over-pursued, were tied to the scheme, and did not recognize and recover well at all. More >
Quick Thoughts: Colts 28, Jaguars 31

So, about that preview column from Saturday, let’s just keep that between you and me, okay? The Colts traveled to Jacksonville and were served a big dose of “running game pie”. As with the Houston game, however, defensive lapses and breakdowns don’t excuse the multitude of undisciplined plays from the offense. After the jump, I’ll give you the rest of my quick thoughts on the Colts loss.

Colts v Jaguars, and Things of that Nature (Week 4 Preview)

On Sunday, the Colts will make their annual trek to the frozen tarps of Jacksonville Municipal Stadium EverBank Field to take on the Los Angeles Jaguars of Jacksonville. On paper, it would appear to be a contest between two teams built with similar philosophies: build through the draft, have stability at head coach, have stability at quarterback, and never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line. Looks, as Colts President Bill Polian would tell you, can be deceiving.

Colts Forward-Looking Observations
Sep 28th
The Colts are in a situation that has become all too familiar for fans each year. They have suffered a rash of season-ending injuries, starting in rookie mini-camp, with third-round cornerback Kevin Thomas. The Colts added four more defensive backs to that list: including veteran safety Jamie Silva, safety David Caldwell, safety Donye’ McCleskey, and cornerback Jordan Hemby — each were lost during training camp and preseason.
Tight end Tom Santi and kicker Brett Swenson also failed to make it to the regular season. Since the season’s start, linebacker Ramon Humber has been waived due to injury and starters Bob Sanders, Clint Session, Pierre Garçon, Charlie Johnson, and Anthony Gonzalez have all suffered injuries that have kept them out of games. Starting linebacker Clint Session’s replacement, rookie Kavell Conner, suffered a broken bone in his left foot in Denver that will keep him out for weeks as well. Even 2007 second-round pick Tony Ugoh suffered a toe injury that led to his release from the club. More >
Quick Thoughts: Colts 27, Broncos 13
Sep 26th
The Colts followed up their domination of the Giants by traveling to Mile High Stadium and defeating the plucky Denver Broncos by a final score of 27-13. The Colts were led by Peyton Manning, Austin Collie, and a schizophrenic defense that could not decide if they wanted to bend, break, or stonewall the Broncos. Here are my quick thoughts from the game:
