2009 Game Recap – Week 11: Indianapolis Pro Football Team at Baltimore Ravens
Aug 7th

To help pass time this off-season, I’ve reviewed the Colts’ regular season games from 2009. With this second look at how the team played, a few thoughts have occured to me which were not obvious during the initial viewing, and I thought it a good opportunity to rethink some of my previously held opinions of the team I love. So, with your kind indulgence, as I view a game at a time I’ll be sharing my impressions.
Personal Note: This is not, and was never intended to be, an objective, unbiased review of an NFL contest. It is instead a glimpse into the emotional ride experienced by the average Colts fan at game time. My Homerism switch is engaged and turned up to eleven. With that in mind, I invite you to join me as we re-live the highs and lows of the 2009 Indianapolis Colts season.
Today’s Game: Week 11 – Indianapolis Pro Football Team at Baltimore Ravens
Setting The Stage
- The Colts come into the game undefeated at 9-0 and coming off a huge comeback win at home against the New England Patriots. Colts quarterback Peyton Manning leads the NFL with 20 passing touchdowns. Quarterback Joe Flacco and safety Ray Lewis lead the Ravens who hold a five and four record; having lost the last six meetings between the clubs. This is Colts kicker Matt Stover’s first visit to Baltimore since being released by the Ravens at the end of last year. Kelvin Hayden returns to the Colts lineup while Bob Sanders and Tyjuan Hagler are still inactive. Dwight Freeney, with a bad hip, sees limited playing time, and Pierre Garçon is hobbled with a bad ankle. With the win over NE, Colts coach Jim Caldwell became the first rookie coach in NFL history to win his first nine games.
- The Field: A sunny, 56 degree fall day at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland.
- The Crowd: Very loud, rude, and rowdy. Boos when Haloti Ngata is called for an obvious unnecessary roughness penalty after launching himself into the back of a prone Pierre Garçon. At every opportunity, they boo former Ravens’ kicker Matt Stover.
- Dear Baltimore, Indy versus Ravens? Really? You know, at some point you have to just take a deep breath and let it go. Sincerely, teej

Coltzilla Reviews Thursday Night Practice Training Camp 2010

Thursday night was a little cooler than some of the nights I could have attended camp so I was grateful. The team ran through a wide variety of drills and team work and the coaches kept them busy, never spending a whole lot of time on one thing.
Although it is difficult to get a full grasp of the team in just one evening practice, a few things popped out at me.

Below I have listed all of my tweets from training camp on Thursday evening. This will give you an idea, in order from last post to first post, how the practice went (in my eyes). I hope you will enjoy seeing the raw material that will lead to the story I will write about what I saw on my first day at training camp.

Today’s Game: Week 10 – New England Patriots at Indianapolis Colts
Setting The Stage
- The Colts come into the game 8-0, one of two undefeated teams, and with a defense which leads the league in points allowed. Tom Brady and Randy Moss lead the Patriots into the game at 6-2 and lead the AFC East. Colts injuries include Bob Sanders, Tyjuan Hagler, Aaron Francisco, and Kelvin Hayden. Kyle DeVan starts his second game at right guard.
- The Field: It’s a Sunday night at Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis IN. The roof is closed.
- The Crowd: Loud early, very subdued in the second and third quarters… yeah, I can see why. The fourth is a totally different story. They’re rockin’ crazy at the end.

Marlin Jackson is a class act. Even though he no longer plays in Indianapolis, he returned to the city last weekend in support of his Fight For Life Foundation. Marlin discusses the Foundation’s work with kids, his recent Achilles injury, and the challenge of overcoming three consecutive season-ending injuries in the past three NFL seasons.
God’s speed, Mr. Jackson. Thanks for all you do.

Bob Lamey, long time announcer for the team, visits with WishTV 8 News to discuss Colts 2010 Training Camp. Bob discusses how training camp has changed over the years, the team’s new coaches, the potential for rookies to make an impact, how good Tony Ugoh looked in OTAs, and the importance of pre-season games among other topics.
Bob seems psyched. I’m psyched. Are you ready for football?
Colts Tight End Tom Santi Placed on Waived/Injured List
Aug 2nd

CBS Sports Rapid Reports is reporting that the Colts have placed third year tight end Tom Santi on the waived/injured list. This is a rather frustrating development, as I thought Santi had a great deal of talent and a bright future if he could stay on the field. Note: Phil B. Wilson of the Indy Star suggested in a tweet that the move was made to make room for Jerry Hughes, who signed earlier today.
The news does narrow the training camp competition at tight end, however, and places Gijon Robinson back on the bubble. Before, I was relatively sure that Robinson was going to lose his roster spot (he still might) because the three other tight ends on the team either had more potential or showed more skill in their limited opportunities.
