Questioning the Toughness of Players like the Colts Sanders or Gonzalez is “Ignorant”
Nov 19th

Ross Tucker of ESPN wrote a story yesterday regarding an oft-discussed issue with injured NFL players, particularly ones who miss time more often than fans think they should. His response is clear, questioning the toughness of NFL players because they suffer from injuries that hold them out of long stretches of football games, even multiple times, is ignorant.
Too often fans and a lot of writers in the media, particularly fan writers on blogs, will throw around labels like “injury prone” or say things like a player is not “tough enough” to play professional football. These comments are almost always uninformed, lack depth, and are only written because those writing the comments are ignorant to the kinds of injuries players often suffer, the gravity of those injuries, and the difficulty of overcoming not only the pain but the rigorous rehabilitation processes that go along with them. Behind Enemy Lines: Denver Broncos
Sep 24th

The Colts Week 3 opponents, the Denver Broncos, are a somewhat familiar foe. These two teams have met on quite a few occasions this decade, but there has been significant turnover for the Broncos. Gone are the days of Mike Shanahan, the west coast offense, zone blocking schemes, and Jim Bates’ conservative 4-3 defense.
In are the days of Josh McDaniels, his spread offense, and a 3-4 attacking defense. Despite the changes, this match-up and the strategies deployed by McDaniels should be familiar as McDaniels is the former offensive coordinator of one of the Colts’ biggest rivals: the New England Patriots.

AFC West: Regular and Postseason Predictions

The season is here, so naturally it is time to look ahead to the playoffs. No? This eight-part series takes a look at each division and discusses the outlook for every team in the NFL — in both the regular season and playoffs.
AFC WEST
TEAM: San Diego Chargers
RECORD: 12-4 | Win the Division
REASON: Although the Chargers appeared to be a team on the decline last year, that should change in 2010. Their defense is still respectable, although they do have some concerns along the defensive line. Offensively, the Chargers have lost LaDainian Tomlinson, once the best rusher in the league, but one who seems to have lost his legs. They drafted running back Ryan Matthews to replace Tomlinson, who should reinvigorate their ground game, so long as their offensive line can hold up. The biggest advantage for the Chargers over the rest of their division is the play of quarterback Phillip Rivers. More >

Colts Wednesday Morning Training Camp Observations

Watching the Colts’ morning practice on Wednesday morning was boring and tedious. Unlike other practices, the team worked through drills and situations at a slow speed, focusing on schemes, formations, and fundamentals.
The upside to this kind of practice is that it is much easier to identify and follow which players are on the field, at what times and in what situations, and possibly get a more developed gauge for where the Colts plan to use their weapons. It was with this approach I have tried to glean a small bit of information that may help fans have an idea which direction the team is heading as their first pre-season game approaches.

Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post announced that the Colts have reached a four-year $1.83 million deal with Ray Fisher. Fisher was a Colts seventh round pick and is projected to compete for kick and punt return duties, along with a chance to serve as one of the team’s primary back-up cornerbacks.
Fisher is the first of the Colts 2010 NFL Draft picks to officially sign with the team.
Do the Indianapolis Colts have the Best Wide Receivers in the NFL?

The storyline behind the Indianapolis Colts’ wide receivers is nearly as surprising as the defensive tackle position. Just one season ago, many pundits foretold the downfall of the Colts, due in part to the loss of future Hall of Fame receiver Marvin Harrison. Now, the Colts have arguably the most talented group of receivers in the NFL.
When Anthony Gonzalez went down with an MCL tear on the first offensive play of the regular season, it would have been easy to write the season off. No, not pack things in and hope to go .500, but suggesting in that moment that the Colts offense would be able to produce at levels capable of helping the team nearly go undefeated and reach the Super Bowl? Not a chance.
