Looking Ahead: Colts Running Backs in 2011
Feb 14th
2010 was about as rough on Colts running backs as it was on the team’s safeties.
The opening depth chart included fourth string rusher and kick returner Devin Moore, who went down for the year with a shoulder injury in the Week 4 match-up with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Second-string back, and 2009 First Round pick, Donald Brown missed weeks 4-6 with a hamstring injury. Third-string back, Mike Hart missed weeks 9-12 and 13-17 with an ankle injury. Starter, Joseph Addai missed eight weeks with a shoulder injury.
Fifth-string back, Javarris James played a significant role in four of the Colts 2010 games — which included six rushing touchdowns. Even Dominic Rhodes, former starter behind Edgerrin James, made his way back onto the roster following a full season with the Florida Tuskers of the UFL — he shattered the UFL records for rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and all purpose yards. Rhodes played significantly in weeks 15-17.
In total, the Colts had six different rushers and tallied 32 missed games between the four who started the season on the depth chart. More >
In the Training Room: Impact of a Lockout on Rehab
Jan 26th
With a potential NFL lockout coming, two health-related impacts loom large for players. The first is the possible loss of health care benefits (Patriots’ OL Matt Light raises an excellent non-game-related example of how this affects players personally). The other is that players who are rehabbing from injury will not have access to team facilities beginning March 4. This article looks at who on the Colts’ team this is likely to affect most.
Did Injuries Affect the 2010 Colts?
Jan 19th
Colts fans are stuck in limbo. The Super Bowl is still two weeks away, so talking about the off-season seems premature. Before fans get to that point, it is worthwhile to take a look back at 2010 to gauge where the Colts franchise will be when the draft and summer activities roll around.
One of the biggest impacts on Indianapolis in 2010 was the unprecedented number of injuries the team had to play through. The Colts placed 18 players on Injured Reserve, and two others on the injured/waived list — including Taj Smith, who rejoined the Colts. This number does not include injured players who missed multiple games throughout the year, but still managed to hold onto a roster spot.
Below are three ways to examine Indy’s injuries in 2010.
A Fan Salute to the 2010 Indianapolis Colts
Jan 5th
With a win against the Titans, the Colts managed to overcome unprecedented team injuries and their worst five game series since 2002 for a NFL record (tie) ninth consecutive playoff berth, and their seventh AFC South Championship in the last eight years. Peyton Manning was able to get through his toughest stretch of games since his rookie year and somehow Indy has managed to enter January with the three seed in the AFC.
It is extremely important for Colts fans to step back and think about the gravity of this accomplishment. Frankly, this team had no business overcoming all of the adversity it has faced in a sixteen game season. More >
Why the Colts have Struggled in 2010
Dec 12th
Colts fans have watched in horror as a team that entered the season as one of the most talented groups Indianapolis has put together in quarterback Peyton Manning’s career has fallen into mediocrity and failed to continue an NFL record streak of consecutive 12-win seasons. Many expected the stretch of games against the Eagles, Patriots, Chargers, and Cowboys would be difficult, but dropping all four games is not something Colts teams have done in the past.
This uncharacteristic run of losses has understandably caused Colts fans to panic. The blame game is in full force, and fans are scrambling to find answers to resolve the issues in Indianapolis before the 2011 season begins. More >
Cowboys v. Colts, and Things of that Nature (Week 13 Game Preview)
Dec 4th
No comments
The Colts are in no position to lose a third straight game. At some point, Indianapolis cannot rely on losses by their AFC South opponents to stay in the mix for a division championship and playoff berth.
With players like Mike Hart, Justin Tryon, Brody Eldridge, and possibly Gary Brackett set to return, injuries will play a smaller role in a game against a weaker opponent than the San Diego Chargers, New England Patriots, or Philadelphia Eagles. Additionally, three out of the Colts last four games are division games. It is time for Indianapolis to find some consistency and it would be best for the beginning of that consistency to start at home against Dallas. More >
Why the Colts Future is not in Doubt
Dec 2nd

With Indianapolis struggling recently, a lot of fans are questioning the team’s future. Many complain about recent drafts and believe the young talent will be incapable of replacing the perennial Pro Bowl and future Hall of Fame talent that is starting to age.
This negative perspective is premature. As long as Peyton Manning is healthy and playing at a very high level in the NFL, the Colts future is safe. With that in mind, it makes sense to focus on the players who represent the team’s future, consider their talent level, and where that talent can take the Colts moving forward. More >
Questioning the Toughness of Players like the Colts Sanders or Gonzalez is “Ignorant”
Nov 19th
5 comments
Ross Tucker of ESPN wrote a story yesterday regarding an oft-discussed issue with injured NFL players, particularly ones who miss time more often than fans think they should. His response is clear, questioning the toughness of NFL players because they suffer from injuries that hold them out of long stretches of football games, even multiple times, is ignorant.
Too often fans and a lot of writers in the media, particularly fan writers on blogs, will throw around labels like “injury prone” or say things like a player is not “tough enough” to play professional football. These comments are almost always uninformed, lack depth, and are only written because those writing the comments are ignorant to the kinds of injuries players often suffer, the gravity of those injuries, and the difficulty of overcoming not only the pain but the rigorous rehabilitation processes that go along with them. Nov 14th
1 comment
The following players have had a determination made concerning their availability in today’s matchup of the Indianapolis Colts vs. the Cincinnati Bengals.
Joseph Addai - INACTIVE: Continues to rehab from the same injury that put Devin Moore in Injured Reserve
Austin Collie – INACTIVE: While he has improved through the week, the team is not wanting to rush him with a severe concussion.
Mike Hart – INACTIVE: Still no real time-line for Hart’s return, and no changes are forthcoming today.
Brody Eldridge – ACTIVE: Eldridge will return to the field as the starting TE, and may see even more work with no available slot receivers.
Gary Brackett – INACTIVE: Brackett spent the week sitting out of practice and will not play, meaning Pat Angerer will do a position swap yet again.
Clint Session – INACTIVE: Session continues to heal after breaking his arm and dislocating his elbow in Week 8. Tyjuan Hagler is expected to start.
Blair White – INACTIVE: White injured himself during the week, and the Colts have brought up 2 WRs from the practice squad to add depth.
Jerraud Powers – ACTIVE: Powers returns to the lineup, helping to solidify the secondary just in time against a revitalized Terrell Owens.
Jacob Tamme – ACTIVE: Tamme will be active, and may end up seeing significant time in the slot with neither WRs James or Brooks looking particularly hopeful in the position in previous experiences.
Bob Sanders – INACTIVE: Sanders continues to rehab from a ruptured Bicep.
Justin Tryon – INACTIVE: Tryon is also recovering from an injury sustained in the week 8 matchup against Houston.
