Tom James of CBS Rapid Reports revealed that former head coach Tony Dungy will be inducted into the Colts Ring of Honor during halftime of Monday night’s game against the Houston Texans. Dungy will join Robert Irsay, Ted Marchibroda, Bill Brooks, Jim Harbaugh and Chris Hinton in the Ring of Honor.
Dungy finished his career in Indianapolis with a 85-27 record (75.9% wins), five AFC South Championships, took the team to two AFC Championship Games, and was the first African American head coach to ever win a Super Bowl in the NFL (Super Bowl XLI – 2006).
Four Colts Ruled Out for Monday Night Football
Oct 28th
Tom James of CBS Rapid Reports has learned that the Colts have ruled out backup linebacker Kavell Conner, safety Bob Sanders, wide receiver Austin Collie, and defensive tackle Antonio Johnson for the Monday night game against the Houston Texans. None of these players are big surprises.
It is interesting that Joseph Addai is not included on the list, as many in the media have basically concluded he will be out of the lineup for weeks. He may still miss the game, and could miss weeks, but not being included on the list of players who have already been ruled out is a cautiously optimistic sign that he may very well suit up Monday night. Some may still be worried about Gary Brackett, who is not on the list, but he has suggested that he will be ready to play on Monday.
Colts Receiver Anthony Gonzalez Participates in Walk-Through Practice

Tom James of CBS Rapid Reports noted today that wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez participated in Monday’s walk-through practice. Coltzilla will keep you updated on Gonzo’s progress but his participation is encouraging, considering that Austin Collie, who sat out much of last week with an injury, played in the Chiefs game on Sunday but was held out Monday. It stands to reason that if the Colts felt that Gonzo still needed rest because he was too hurt to practice, they would have held him out as they did for what is probably precautionary reasons with Collie.
NOTE: Running back Donald Brown also returned from his hamstring injury, while starter Joseph Addai did not participate.
Defensive Tackle Mitch King, Running Back Brandon Minor Added to Practice Squad

With all the Colts roster moves recently, one of the most surprising decisions was the release of defensive tackle Mitch King. Although King’s role in the defense started to decline in recent weeks, he started the season on the active roster and the Colts rarely put active players down to the practice squad once they conclude they are good enough to play a role in games on Sundays.
Tom James of CBS Rapid Reports indicates that Mitch King and running back Brandon Minor were added to the practice squad. Minor played collegiately at Michigan and is the biggest running back on the roster at 6-foot 1-inches and 216 pounds. The move to push King down to the practice quad but retain Ricardo Mathews suggests that either King has disappointed the Colts front office, or that Ricardo Mathews has showed further development from his impressive play in the Colts season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Colts Center Jeff Saturday Returns to Practice

Tom James, Colts correspondent for CBS Rapid Reports, reported earlier today that veteran center Jeff Saturday returned to practice today. Although he saw only limited action and will not play against the Bengals on Thursday, the news suggests that Saturday should be ready for the season opener in Houston, so long as he does not suffer any setbacks.
Gonzalez Update: Caldwell Says He Will Be Fine

John Oehser provides another important update on CBS Rapid Reports concerning Anthony Gonzalez’s recent “setback.”
Colts coach Jim Caldwell on Friday declined to discuss the specifics of why WR Anthony Gonzalez missed mini-camp practice last weekend: “I can tell you this: He’ll be fine.”
The Colts have always been a little “hush hush” regarding their players injuries, particularly when they are not under any pressure from the league to provide injury reports. This has led a lot of speculation to run rampant concerning Gonzalez since he mentioned suffering a setback at his recent charity golf outing. Journalists rarely name their sources, as any team sources remain anonymous, and Gonzo’s catastrophic knee-injury that kept him out for the entire 2009 season is still fresh in everyone’s mind.

Gonzalez Setback Unrelated to Knee-Injury

John Oehser posted an update through CBS Rapid Reports concerning Anthony Gonzelez’s setback that is worth noting.
“Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez missed time in last weekend’s minicamp with a hamstring injury, NFL.com is reporting. He missed all but one game last season with a knee injury, but this injury isn’t thought to be related.”
The Colts will break organized team activities on Friday and will not get back on the field together as a team until August 1, the start of training camp. Gonzo should have plenty of time to rest up and heal from his hamstring pull by then. He will need to get back on the field in a hurry if he has any hope of earning his starting spot back to open the season.
Something to Prove: Fili Moala
May 27th
The Indianapolis Colts have a long history of doing more with less at defensive tackle. In the 1995 NFL Draft the Colts selected Ellis Johnson in the first round and in 2002 it drafted Larry Tripplett in the second. It took another seven years for the team to draft a defensive tackle in the first two rounds of the draft, taking Fili Moala in the second round in 2009.
Beyond that, the Colts have had horrible luck with defensive tackles, including the Corey Simon failure, Booger McFarland’s career-ending knee injury in the 2007 off-season, and Ed Johnson’s drug possession and weight control problems ending his short career in Indianapolis. Even former third round pick Quinn Pitcock out of Ohio State, who showed promise in his rookie season, unexpectedly retired on his way to summer workouts in 2008.
If it was not for successful scouting and acquisition of players from other teams, including starters Daniel Muir and Antonio Johnson, along with the development of undrafted free agent Eric Foster, the franchise would have been unable to continue its streak of regular-season success. In order to improve the position long-term and hopefully attain top-tier talent the Colts drafted Moala.
