Colts Offensive Line: Changing of the Guard?
Jan 29th
As the draft approaches and sports fanatics search the internet for the next best mock draft, there is little question Colts fans will read about how terrible the offensive line is, and the work that must be done in the off-season to correct the problem. In the words of my favorite underachieving Indiana football coach, “Not so fast my friend!”
When asked who has the top ranked offensive line in football many would not hesitate to guess Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Philly, or maybe even Oakland, all who rushed for more yards than the Colts. Few would guess the Indianapolis Colts would be in Ludacris’ #1 spot according to the NFL rankings system.
Indianapolis racked up 13 rushing touchdowns — ranking them 12th in the league. The 1,483 rushing yards ranks 29th in the league, but that is also on only 393 attempts which would be the 4th fewest attempts by any team in the league. It must also be noted that the Colts handed the ball to Donald Brown, Javarris James, and Mike Hart — whom have proven absolutely nothing in the NFL — for 210 of those carries, and 37 more of those went to Dominic Rhodes who is on the wrong side of 30. (Colts Nation still loves you though Dominic!) More >
Did Injuries Affect the 2010 Colts?
Jan 19th
Colts fans are stuck in limbo. The Super Bowl is still two weeks away, so talking about the off-season seems premature. Before fans get to that point, it is worthwhile to take a look back at 2010 to gauge where the Colts franchise will be when the draft and summer activities roll around.
One of the biggest impacts on Indianapolis in 2010 was the unprecedented number of injuries the team had to play through. The Colts placed 18 players on Injured Reserve, and two others on the injured/waived list — including Taj Smith, who rejoined the Colts. This number does not include injured players who missed multiple games throughout the year, but still managed to hold onto a roster spot.
Below are three ways to examine Indy’s injuries in 2010.
A Fan Salute to the 2010 Indianapolis Colts
Jan 5th
With a win against the Titans, the Colts managed to overcome unprecedented team injuries and their worst five game series since 2002 for a NFL record (tie) ninth consecutive playoff berth, and their seventh AFC South Championship in the last eight years. Peyton Manning was able to get through his toughest stretch of games since his rookie year and somehow Indy has managed to enter January with the three seed in the AFC.
It is extremely important for Colts fans to step back and think about the gravity of this accomplishment. Frankly, this team had no business overcoming all of the adversity it has faced in a sixteen game season. More >
Friday Injury Report: Titans v. Colts
Dec 31st
A couple of surprises in today’s report – Clint Session participated on only a limited basis, and Jeff Saturday entered the report for the first time in several weeks with what appears to be an injury suffered in practice.
Given that Session went full on Wednesday and Thursday, I wouldn’t be surprised that Friday was limited so he could get some treatment and be ready to play (if not start) on Sunday. I also expect Johnson and Saturday to play, perhaps more because the Colts need them for their consistency than because I know anything specific about their injuries.
Mike Hart looks poised to be available for the first time in several games, and the Colts could have a very rare 5-headed monster in the backfield, with Addai, Rhodes, Brown, Hart and James all looking healthy.
I don’t expect we will see Al Afalava or Kelvin Hayden, I think Jamie Thomas is a toss-up, and I am leaning toward Dan Muir being available if not starting.

Today’s injury report is encouraging for Mike Hart and Clint Session, but not for Kelvin Hayden. Despite Irsay’s tweet yesterday to not read too much into the injury report, the fact that Hayden hasn’t even practiced in a limited capacity this week speaks to his likely status (of OUT) for Sunday’s game.

Today’s injury report is not nearly as long as other weeks’ reports… in part due to the fact that most guys who aren’t available are already on IR. The other factor, of course, is that the Colts are now at the point of win-or-go-home. Players are going to be practicing if they can.
The best news on this report is that Clint Session is back full today. In an earlier press conference, he indicated that he had made a big jump in terms of his health.

By now it’s been widely reported that WR Austin Collie has been placed on IR, and while we will miss him sorely, it is a move that is being applauded around the league, not the least of whom by the Colts fans, who know how much more difficult a playoff run will be without him.
Get well, Austin!
There is some encouraging injury news today, though, as Joseph Addai returned FULL to practice! Mike Hart and Clint Session also saw some practice time. Their status for the game is uncertain, but it’s nice to see that there may be a chance for them to return.

The injury report is getting cleaner, and not a moment too soon. It appears that Austin Collie is headed for a return, as is Kelvin Hayden. The Colts will need as much fire power as they can get with what amounts to their 2nd playoff game of the 2010 season coming up (I counted last week’s game as the 1st because it was at that point).
Phil B. Wilson of Indy Star that we will see Joseph Addai, Mike Hart, Charlie Johnson or Clint Session on Sunday in anything other than track suits.
